TikTok Series will lock content behind a paywall
Right now, there are a ton of users who are making a living off of TikTok. Since so many people use the platform, there’s plenty of ad revenue to be made. While this is true, TikTok is bringing yet another avenue for revenue. TikTok is introducing Series, a way of locking content behind a paywall.
As it stands, a lot of TikTok’s income revolves around creators wracking up on ad revenue. The company takes a cut of the revenue that the users make. Thus, the more the creators gather to pay for their obligatory Lamborghinis (we also accept Teslas), the more money the company itself makes.
However, TikTok Series will let creators lock their content behind a paywall
Ad revenue is a great way of making money, but the company is going to introduce a more direct way for creators to make bank while making content. According to a blog post from the company (via Phone Arena), TikTok Series will let eligible creators put their content behind a paywall.
It’s called Series because TikTok creators can post collections of videos. They can then choose how much they want to charge for each collection. Obviously, this could be a make-or-break for creators, as charging too much for content can cause followers to criticize them.
At the moment, we don’t know if you’ll be able to choose a custom price down to the cent or if there will be set intervals that you can choose.
Series can actually be pretty robust. For starters, each Series can have up to 80 videos. That seems like overkill, but it’s still welcome. Also, each video in the Series can be up to 20 minutes long. That’s twice as long as regular videos can be on the platform. This seems to line up with the speculation that TikTok wants to prioritize longer-form content.
TikTok Series are only available for eligible creators who apply for it. Applications will open in the coming months. We’re not sure what will make you eligible, but we’re pretty sure that you’ll need a minimum follower count with a certain number of views within a certain time span. More information on Series will come out as the company gets closer to launching the program.
