iOS 17 Update May Ditch The iPhone X and More
Apple’s major update for the year iOS 17 is getting ready to hit the phones of all global users. Just like any other major update, this update will come with a lot of useful new features and system enhancements.
Apple is set to announce the iOS 17 at the WWDC 2023. Ahead of the big launch, rumors have began circulating with claims that some iPhones and iPads may not get the next update. Well, this is obvious since every phone has some number of years to receive software updates.
As long as every phone has a limited time to receive software updates, we are much aware that there is an end point for every phone. However, what’s more surprising is how fast support for some of these phones come to an end.
According to rumors, Apple devices such as the iPhone X would have no home in the iOS 17 world. To make things clear, the iPhone X may not get an update for the iOS 17. That is not all, there are other handful of devices which may not get both iOS 17 and iPadOS 17.
List of New Devices That Will Lack iOS 17 and iPadOS 17 Update
This comes as a rumor shared on Twitter. The Twitter user who shared the rumor has a good reputation for making some accurate predictions as far as Apple products are concerned. The following iPhones and iPads will not receive the iOS 17 and iPadOS 17.
Gizchina News of the week
- iPhone 8
- iPhone 8 Plus
- iPhone X
- iPad (5th generation)
- 9.7-inch iPad Pro (1st generation)
- 12.9-inch iPad Pro (1st generation)
These are the latest on the list of Apple devices that are no longer going to receive software updates. A similar incident happened last year when the iOS 16 dropped a couple of devices. The iOS 16 left behind the iPhone 6s,iPhone 6s Plus, the iPhone 7/7 Plus, iPhone SE (1st Gen) and the iPod Touch 7th Gen.
If you have any of these devices listed above, it is worth noting that you will still receive security patches even after iOS 17 is out. Just like Apple did for the iOS 15 users, iOS 16 users will continue to get security patches to keep their devices secured at all times.
Some iOS 17 Update Features Will Be Limited to Certain Devices
Also, not all devices that will receive the next iOS update will be able to enjoy the full features. A notable example is the lack of Live Text on the iPhone X even after receiving the iOS 16. Apple limited the Live Text feature to the iPhone Xs, XR and above.
Even though Apple partially got rid of those restrictions on the iPhone X, users must note that some features of the iOS 17 and iPadOS 17 will be limited to certain devices only.
